Reactive Dog Training Programme in Norfolk
If your dog barks, lunges or becomes overwhelmed around other dogs or people, you’re not alone — and things can improve with the right support.
Together, we’ll explore what’s driving your dog’s behaviour and work through a personalised reactive dog training programme, including behaviour modification and a structured training plan.
Every plan is tailored specifically to your dog’s needs, helping you reduce reactive behaviour, build confidence on walks, and create a calmer, more predictable relationship.
You don’t need to have everything figured out — this is just the first step.
6-Session 1 to 1 Reactive Dog Programme
Our reactive dog programme consists of six individual sessions, starting at our training paddock in Norfolk before moving into real-world locations once the foundations are in place. This ensures your dog can generalise their learning to different environments and you have the support and guidance you need in real world settings, creating long-lasting results.
This programme is designed to support you and your dog in reducing reactive behaviour.
By the end of the programme, most owners report that their dog is calmer around triggers, recovers more quickly after unexpected encounters, and feels more predictable and manageable on walks. You’ll have the knowledge and confidence to continue supporting your dog in daily life. Many dogs then progress on to our small group sessions, where they continue building confidence in a carefully managed, supportive environment.
How My Reactivity Programme Works
Every dog is different, so the programme is always tailored to you and your dog. However, most clients follow a similar journey as we build confidence, understanding and practical real-life skills together.
Here’s how the reactivity programme typically progresses:
Step 1: Starting with Understanding
We begin by looking at why your dog is reacting. You’ll learn how to read their body language, recognise early signs of stress, and understand what they are communicating before things escalate.
Step 2: Building Calm Foundations
Our first sessions take place in a calm, controlled environment at my private training paddock. This allows your dog to feel safe enough to learn while we introduce gentle, effective techniques to reduce overwhelm and build focus.
Step 3: Developing Practical Skills
As your dog becomes more comfortable, we begin to build practical skills such as creating space from triggers, improving lead handling and helping your dog make calmer choices.
Step 4: Moving into Real-World Environments
Once the foundations are in place, we gradually begin working in real-life environments. This is where we help your dog apply their new skills in everyday situations, with careful guidance to keep things manageable and on the right track.
Step 5: Supporting You Both
Reactivity can feel overwhelming, but you won’t be doing this alone. Between sessions, I’ll help you reflect on your dog’s progress, what to adjust, and how to keep progressing at a pace that suits your dog.
What You’ll Learn:
Throughout the reactivity programme, you’ll develop practical, real-world skills to support your dog in everyday situations — not just in sessions, but out on your walks too.
✔️ Understanding your dog’s body language — so you can recognise early signs of stress and support them before things escalate.
✔️ Creating space and managing triggers — helping your dog feel safer by making decisions about distance and environment.
✔️ Calm, effective lead handling — reducing tension on the lead so your dog can feel more relaxed and able to think clearly.
✔️ Building focus and engagement — helping your dog stay connected with you, even around distractions.
✔️ Supporting confidence at both ends of the lead — so you feel calmer and more confident, and your dog has clearer support from you.
✔️ Introducing gentle, effective behaviour change techniques — including approaches such as ACE Free Work, pattern games, counter-conditioning and gradual desensitisation.
These skills give you a clear, practical framework for helping your dog feel safer, more regulated, and better able to cope in everyday life.
You won’t just learn what to do — you’ll understand why it works, so you can confidently support your dog long-term.
